Student Resources

OMNEE provides information to help students as they begin thinking about their post-graduate education. The papers and links below serve as resources to help osteopathic medical students as they begin to navigate the post-graduate training process.

  • Questions to Ask Yourself When Selecting a Residency?
Peter Reynolds, M.D.,  Associate Program Director, Family Medicine, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery
  • The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) website has information for the medical student, and specifically for the graduating student on its OMSIV Resources page.
  • The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) has career planning information on its website through the Medical Students tab.

We also provide helpful PDFs from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP):

  • NRMP-OPDA Match Code of Conduct
  • NRMP-OPDA Promoting Success in the Match

In addition to the links above, we have found other resources that may help students in this process.

  • The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has career planning on its Careers in Medicine page.
  • The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) publishes a comprehensive guidebook called “Strolling through the MATCH.” The audience for this guidebook is the US medical school student (MD); it focuses on allopathic specialty programs only.

If there is other information regarding the post-graduate education navigation process that students have found useful, please contact the OMNEE at omnee@vcom.vt.edu. We will review the material and may place it on our website.
