The Research Committee shall include the Chief Academic Officer, Deans for Clinical/Biomedical Research of each COM, the director for the office of grants and research, or equivalent position from each COM and one intern representative and one resident representative and other such members as approved by the Board of Advisors.

The Research Committee is responsible for the following:

  • Establishing policies and guidelines governing scientific research activities in accordance with local, state, and federal government guidelines.
  • Facilitating and providing research education, assistance and resources directly to interns, residents and institutions to encourage research and to meet specialty college requirements.
  • Providing ready access to basic science and/or clinical research mentorship.
  • Providing a mechanism to recognize residents who conduct research activities.
  • Seeking internal and external funding to provide for OMNEE-wide or program specific research efforts of its member faculty, residents and students.
  • Supporting, promoting  and facilitating publications in peer review journals from OMNEE community-based residents and/or faculty.
  • Reporting and making recommendations to the OGME Committee.

Operating Procedures

The Research Committee shall meet a minimum of two times per year. Meetings are typically held in the OMNEE conference room (first floor), Knollwood Centre, 309 Knollwood Dr., Blacksburg, VA  and via teleconference.
